ONE MORE YEAR COUNT DOWN! It's crazy, Derek only has one more year of residency until we are FREEEEEEEE! ...and then we get to start paying back the massively overwhelming school loans and debts that these past 8+ years have accumulated in our family's sacraficial choice to endure medical school and all that goes with it. Will it pay off? That's the million dollar question! With the Democrats in power and their terrifying threats of socializing medicine, who knows.
We recently went to a party held in honor of Congressman Gabriel Giffords thrown by a small group of physicians. It was very interesting! I finally was able to sneak in a quick question to her while she was leaving and ask her how the Federal Government felt like they could efficiently and nonbiasly regulate the medical industry and protect private citizens from scandal and corrupt business dealings if they decided to become so closely involved by providing their own coverage? How could private industries remain in business when their competition, the federal government, was both a player and a referree in the game? Her answer: "that's not the intention of the federal government, to take over and force private insurance companies out." Unfortunately, INTENTION cannot protect and save us from REALITY. I further disagreed with her in view of the other recent government moves to "help" private businesses such as the banks and car industries by essentially...TAKING THEM OVER. It's scary. It's terrifying to think about what may be to come.
